SNAC International Hits Capitol Hill, June 6-7

June 1, 2018

SNAC International, the leading international trade association representing 400 snack producers and suppliers worldwide, will kick off its annual Legislative Summit in Washington, DC on June 6. SNAC International members, both large and small, provide consumers with great tasting, traditional and better-for-you products in the growing snack market.

With over 80 scheduled meetings on Capitol Hill, leading snack producers and suppliers from around the country will engage and educate policymakers on top industry priorities. Chief among these priorities is the need to protect the integrity of the SNAP program as congress continues to debate the 2018 Farm Bill. Other priorities include the issues of rising freight costs and driver shortages; establishing science-based criteria for state labeling mandates; and encouraging increased congressional oversight for federal labeling mandates to ensure they impose the least burden on snack producers and make sense for consumers.

SNAC will host its annual SNAC Attack reception on Capitol Hill the evening of June 6, followed by a full day of policy briefings and meetings with congressional offices on June 7.

SNAC members will also hear from leaders in the food and agriculture political arena during the two-day event. Included in the program: U.S. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway; Agriculture and Trade Analyst for Pro Farmer, Jim Wiesemeyer; and Administrator, USDA Food and Nutrition Service, Brandon Lipps.

“The annual Legislative Summit highlights all three cornerstones of SNAC International’s mission: advocacy, networking, and education. Our members look forward to bringing the snack industry’s voice to Capitol Hill and strengthening relationships with decision makers in D.C. at this critical time,” SNAC International President and CEO Elizabeth Avery said.
