Membership Benefits: Advocacy

Government relations are one of the three pillars of SNAC International. SNAC International's governmental affairs team represents member companies' interests at the international, federal, and state levels. SNAC International actively engages in the development of legislation and regulations that impact its members' ability to manufacture and market their products.

SNAC International fosters member involvement in this area through standing committees, ad-hoc working groups, and annual programs. Through the work of its members, staff and consultants, SNAC International influences policymakers on key rules and legislation affecting the snack industry as well as educates member companies on what they need to know to stay compliant with food safety, labeling, transportation, and other regulations.

SNAC International works on its members’ behalf on a wide range of issues including Genetically Modified Organisms, the Food Safety Modernization Act, Dietary Guidelines, Nutrition Facts Panel Labeling, transportation issues such as independent contractor status and hours of service regulations, biofuel policy and commodity prices, free choice for SNAP participants, Fair Labor Policy, sodium, sugar reform, and more.

SNAC International’s Annual Legislative Summit

Each spring, SNAC International members embark on Washington, D.C. to meet directly with their Senators and Representatives on Capitol Hill to discuss the industry’s key issues and how legislative policy affects their businesses. At the Legislative Summit, attendees also have the opportunity to hear from SNAC International’s expert consultants and keynote speakers to learn more about the wide range of issues impacting the industry and how politics and governmental agencies act as influencers. SNAC International members meet each year in D.C. to network and collaborate on the challenges they face as business leaders in a changing industry faced with new policy each year.
